April 2015 | Emirates Walk for Autism | ATIC proudly supported and participated at the 'Emirates Walk for Autism', this is an annual charity event to increase awareness and to support children and families managing Autism organized by Kids in Motion and supported by the Emirates Red Crescent. This was the first time for ATIC to participate and we were very excited to join this wonderful initiative and support the Autism community here in the U.A.E! ATIC provided guests with lots of fun and creativity, such as drawing, colouring and painting Mandalas which are therapeutically linked to decreasing stress and anxiety. In our programme our art therapists helped participant’s explore intense feelings in a safe, nonverbal, and creative manner, un-blocking suppressed emotions. Participants learnt to externalize the difficult emotions they were internalizing causing their depression. ATIC’s programme helped participants learn to deal with difficult emotions and experiences through gaining new perspectives, developing resilience, strength, and to enact change providing relief. | |

2013/14 | Decision Making & Conflict Resolution Programme with Probationers | ATIC has been working with the Ministry of Family and Social Development (MSF) to conduct ongoing Decision Making and Conflict Resolution Programmes for youth probationers. This art therapy programme designed by ATIC, helps the youths make appropriate decisions though learning to manage conflict and through newly acquired negotiation skills. | |
2013/14 | Art Therapy & Addiction with Probationers | This project is a new initiative and collaboration between the Central Narcotics Board (CNB), and the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF) to address the problem of drug abuse. This programme designed by ATIC, involves group and individual sessions to help probationers and their families manage addiction. It is a motivational and cognitive-behavioural approach implemented through art therapy. Youths work on their personal motivations to abstain from drug use. The programme also provided the probationers with skills to cope with relapse and how to lead a healthy lifestyle. | |
2012/13 | School-Based Art Therapy for students with Learning Difficulties | ATIC completed two school-based Art Therapy programmes for students with learning difficulties at Northlight school. The programme focused on helping the students have a healthier self-image, process emotions surrounding their disability, and to develop social skills and confidence. With the same class of students running over two terms of sixteen weeks consecutively, the programme proudly rounded off with a final exhibition and presentation of the students works reflecting on their personal insight brought about through the intervention. | |
2013 | Art Therapy for Students who have Experienced Trauma | ATIC in collaboration with the Ministry of Education (MOE), provided crisis support to students who have had difficult experiences and who are overwhelmed by stress impacting their overall functioning. 2012 | Art Therapy for Terminally Ill Children and their Families | ATIC is proud to be a part of a multi-disciplinary team of expressive therapists and medical professionals, who as a team provided palliative care for terminally ill children, adolescents and their families. ATIC recently has collaborated with StarPALS providing an art therapy programme helping children and adolescents process their passing. Often our art therapists at the children and adolescents request would help them put together art pieces which were specially created and intended as parting gifts for family and friends. The programme also helped provide support to parents who were grieving. They will forever be remembered. | |
2012 | Group Art Therapy for Probationers with Intellectual Disabilities | ATIC’s “Group Art Therapy for Probationers with Intellectual Disabilities” programme was designed for the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF) for groups of Probationers (young adolescents, adolescents and young adults) with intellectual learning difficulties. Probationers learnt to process their emotions and circumstances, which was at times difficult and even painful to embrace. At their own pace each week the group came together and embarked upon their own personal journey of past, present, and future. The group helped harness social and emotional skills to prepare them for a bright and meaningful future. Building Self-esteem and providing empowerment gave the population a motivation for change and in reaching their fullest potential. Creativity evoked learning, taking responsibility for their choices and in developing maturity over the course of the weeks. A positive bond between group members allowed for a supportive platform in developing healthy interpersonal relationships. | |
2011 | Art Therapy as an Intervention against Inhalant Abuse | ATIC’s “Art Therapy as an Intervention against Inhalant Abuse” programme was designed for the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF) for groups of Probationers (young adolescents, adolescents and young adults) as an intervention for their inhalant abuse. The art therapy programme focused on allowing the probationers to discover the reason(s) behind their inhalant abuse/addiction. Participants were confronted with their reality, which was masked by their addiction and used as a form of escapism. After processing difficult emotions the probationers developed a much needed resilience. The probationers were given the necessary skills to implement and manage their own relapse prevention plan, to be in charge of their own addiction as the first stage to their addiction recovery. Individual follow up sessions allowed ATIC’s art therapists to help the probationers manage their triggers. Family art therapy sessions when possible were also an important component to the overall treatment process. | |
2011 | Art Therapy & Self-Harm | ATIC’s “Art Therapy and Self-Harm” programme, is a group art therapy intervention managing self-harm. The programme was implemented for teenagers who self-harm at both Canossaville children’s home, and Guangyang secondary school. This intervention programme focused on developing participant’s sense of self-worth and in understanding core reason(s) for self-harming behaviours. Specialized art therapy intervention was also given to sexual abuse survivors who self-harm. | |
2011 | Art Therapy & the Elderly | ATIC’s “Art Therapy and the Elderly” programme helped our senior citizens many of them victims to Alzheimer’s disease, share their memories no matter how fragmented or small. Participants were soothed by creating and sharing their stories. The benefits of ATIC’s art therapy programme was soon recognized by the organizers and an extension of the programme was provided. Participants contributed to an end of programme art exhibition in honor of their history which was attended by their children and even their children’s children as well as by the community. | |
2011 | Art Connection | ATIC’s “Art Connection” programme was jointly organized by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Singapore Arts Museum and the Art Therapy Association of Singapore (ATAS). The programme through art helped participants get to know likeminded professionals in search of a spouse. Participants were engaged in mask making followed by interactive communication activities which allowed for fun, expression, and exploration of one another’s compatibility, personality, thoughts and beliefs. Participants were soon enthusiastic and enjoyed getting to know one another. | |
2011 | Lectures on Nurturing Resilience in Children | ATIC’s series of lectures on “Nurturing Resilience in Children” was firstly presented in Mandarin, to groups of parents engaged in a “Back to School” programme jointly organized by the Health Promotion Board and the Chinese Development Assistance Council (CDAC). The one and half hour talk focused mainly on parenting skills, highlighting emotional wellness for young children and teens. These lectures were soon conducted in a variety of organizations within the community. | |
2011 | The Art of Transition | ATIC’s the “Art of Transition” programme was conducted for the graduating cohorts of Northlight Secondary School, where students had the opportunity to prepare for closure and the future, whilst processing memories of school. The programme specifically focused on processing transition from the academic and caring environment of school, to that of uncertainty where work or further study awaits the students. Students were naturally reluctant to say good-bye to their teachers, fellow classmates, and the safety of their school environment. Words of encouragement were shared, bringing about closure. 2011 | The Art of Bonding: Family Day | ATIC’s the “Art of Bonding” programme was conducted at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital (KTPH) Family Day. Family members of the staff of KTPH were treated to an array of art activities during our ‘open studio’ where children, siblings, parents and grandparents had the opportunity to spend quality time with one another through the facilitation of art making. 2011 | Workshop on Emotional Well-Being for Families in Transition | ATIC’s “Emotional Wellbeing for Families in Transition” workshop was conducted for expatriates recently relocated to Singapore, focusing on issues relating to adjusting to change within the family and community. 2011 | Lecturing on Art Therapy & Pediatric Oncology | ATIC’s art therapist Sara Powell presented her research “Art Therapy & Pediatric Oncology: Strengthening the Ego of a Child Diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia” during LASALLE College of the Arts research forum. During the keynote presentation, Sara brought about insights into the benefits of art therapy for children with cancer. | |
2010 | Art Therapy for Mental Health Week | ATIC was invited to conduct a variety of art Therapy sessions (individual, group, workshops) for Mental Health Week at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital (KTPH). Art Therapy was provided for staff of KTPH for the entire week, allowing employees the opportunity to explore their creativity and use art as a form of stress relief. ATIC promoted a healthy work-life balance. |
